Welcome

St. Helens High School Library / Media Center

St. Helens High School Library and Media Center is the academic focal point for the school learning community where students and staff can learn, study, collaborate and become confident and effective users of information, ideas, and technology.

“Information literacy forms the basis for lifelong learning. It is common to all disciplines, to all learning environments, and to all levels of education. It enables learners to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-directed, and assume greater control over their own learning.”
( The Association of College and Research Libraries (2000).

Our staff believes Information literacy is fundamental in the pursuit of knowledge and learning. When information is needed we can locate, evaluate, investigate and effectively implement the results for student success.

We subscribe to several databases that encompass an extensive resource collection. Our collection supports and strengthens the curriculum as well as encouraging reading in all areas of interest.

We fully support necessary research and research-based instructional tools to assist teachers aligning with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Research and media skills are prominent in the CCSS. They are found throughout the strands of Reading, Writing, Language, and Listening & Speaking. Our media center is a valuable research hub for students to learn the research process using online sources as well as promoting digital citizenship.

“Research—both short, focused projects (such as those commonly required in the workplace) and longer term in depth research —is emphasized throughout the standards...”
